Glitter Market 2014

I am down to vending once a year at our local paper store, Paper Crown.

I have knits, because I knit...

Also I make journals because it is one of the most deeply fulfilling things I have ever done.

If you are in Oklahoma City and feel so inclined, come by Saturday, 22 November.

Italy 2014 Day Six

Pam Garrison's book constructed in Italy.

This day was largely spent in the studio.

Binding the book and embellishing pages....

Painting a bag used to collect journal fodder.

Making a map of Orvieto in a little booklet.
Pam's above...
Ingrid Petrini from Sweden was preparing love notes for her son's upcoming wedding.
Ingrid...sigh...fresh, funny, talented, lovely...
Completed books...

It began to rain late that day.
It was funny to discover the California girls were excited to hear thunder...
It set the mood for a trip down into Etruscan caves.
The Etruscan community lived in Orvieto and central Italy
hand digging caves in the 200-400 BC dates.
The Etruscans were largely absorbed by Roman Italians in time,
leaving their highly efficient caves systems for us to get to know them.

In Orvieto if you own property, you also own and are responsible for the caves which you may find under your dwelling. This is one of 100s of caves mostly not available to the public.

The highlight of Pozzo della Cava is the well, 100 feet deep, with fresh water at its depth.
The caves were utilized and renovated in the middle ages.
The history of this city is layered most visibly in these underground labyrinths.

We laughed through dinner with young Francesca of Brooklyn living in LA.
The many days of mucus production ended in straight up wheezing through dinner.
You can buy half bottles of wine in Italy.
So we did.

Evolution of a Page

This is in my Scrapbook Journal.
Paint and ledger paper circles.
And tape.
And then paint.
And more paint.
And ink and pencil.
And the word go...

It Is Done

I finally completed Project Life 2012.
When I am actually working on it I enjoy it.
The other 320 days of the year it hangs over my head like a pendulum blade...
When December started I had completed book one, January through July.

In the last 2 months I have worked to do book two.
I cant move on until it is done. but it is done.
Most of my photos are vertical and for the last three years most of the kit is orientated in the horizontal format.
I have bought a lot of pages that allow for my preferred vertical pictures.
I end up using very little of the kit for that reason.
But I will do it again in 2014, which can now start...

January 2014 So Far

Started this needlepoint project, it is enormous and I expect it to take about ten years. Really.
Watched my Sooners beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.
Allie went.
She is with her adorable cousin, Lee, from New Orleans here.
Visited my parents.
Experimenting with Italian wines.
Participating in Root, a 30 day journaling project.
Obsessing with this girl and her abundant doggy ears.
Figured this out...

And Another Winter

Evolution. Evolution of a page.
Of a middle-aged woman.
Every winter I get low. Blue. Depressed.
Having, in the past, recognized it as a necessary hibernation,
as I enter it now I find myself low but not sunk.
Tired, hungry, unmotivated...
Depressed? Or just a need for quiet and low stimulation? Rest?
Because that's okay.
